For now this is only a back-up journal. My main journal is still on LJ, though I will slowly be transferring things here. For now please go to harumi.livejournal.com if you wish to read my entries.
I was an undergraduate of the University of Michigan, and majored in English Literature, Asian Studies (Japanese history), and (apparently) Japanese studies. I do not know how I got the latter, but I suspect this is because I took three years of Japanese and did not manage to fail any of my classes. Until recently, I'd lived in rural Japan and taught in a Japanese vocational high school. Occasionally I'd also be sent off to teach in a Japanese junior high school and a Japanese special needs school (I got around). I was there for three years, but am now back in the US. Starting from Fall 2011 I'll be studying for my M.S.Ed. in Upenn's TESOL program.
There are things I geek out over: tea ceremony, calligraphy, clothes-shopping, and bento-making. You could assume that these are the venues in which I lose my money, and you would be right. Whether I'm good at any of them is up to my instructors, friends, and family to decide.
My main indulgence on the internet is fandom and snark communities. I write fanfiction for the former, and lurk in the latter. My current main fandom is:

Hikaru no Go Fan ♥

I also write for: Zelda: Twilight Princess, Natsume Yuujinchou, Seirei no Moribito, and wrote crossovers with Mononoke and Pokemon.
If you have come to this profile because of my fanfiction, I thank you for reading them. Please understand that while it is okay to friend me, I will not necessarily friend you back. If you do want me to friend back, please comment on any of my public entries with a short self introduction. My fanfiction is public, but the rest of my entries are not. This is a friends-locked journal, and I have no intention of changing it.
